Read-A-Thon 2016 UPDATE

FullSizeRender 6

I am so thrilled to tell you about what God has done! We had so much fun during the Read-a-Thon in March and were so glad to have so many readers and sponsors participate. The combination of my love for books and my heart for orphans is almost too much. I am bursting with excitement!

Going into this fundraiser, I prayed that God would allow us to double the number of participants that we had last year and raise a lofty $5,000. This seemed far-reaching, but I prayed boldly. Well, let me back up, I fretted at first. I obsessively checked my email for news of newly registered participants. I fretted. I worried. One day, God clearly convicted me of not trusting him to provide and that instead of fretting, I needed to start praying. I shared that with Ben that evening and committed to trusting and praying, believing that God could do exceedingly, abundantly more. The very next morning, I checked my email and the number of participants had gone from 10 to 21. I felt God’s blessing and comfort in the reminder that God’s got this. He promised to provide for this adoption and no amount of fretting is going to accomplish anything.

So, I’m happy to tell you that God answered my prayers! We had 31 readers, over 25,000 pages were read and we raised $5,945.78. We are blown away and incredibly humbled and grateful. Little by little, our needs are being met. Praise God!

We’ve worked hard over the past two years, and many of you have labored alongside of us and given generously. It means so much to have our friends and family support us on this journey. We have also been blessed by complete strangers: members of the family of God who are sensitive to the plight of the orphan. It’s a pretty incredible thing to be a part of.

I was in awe this morning at all that has gone into the rescuing of ONE orphan. The time. The prayer. The fundraising. The fund-giving. It’s a lot! God brought to mind the parable of the shepherd’s concern for the ONE sheep that was lost. The Good Shepherd will go to great lengths to ensure that even just ONE of His children are saved. He loves us that much. I smile to think of his abundant love for the orphan that will one day be a part of our family.

Thank you to the many who have walked this journey with us. Isn’t it exciting to be part of what God is doing?!?! I hope you are as blessed by it as we are. Thank you.

How Do You Eat An Elephant?

Praise God! We held two yard sales already this summer!! Whew! Good thing we have the rest of the summer to relax! 😉

Come one! Come all!

We are, again, beyond grateful for the way God brought everything together. He provided the space, some great weather, the awesome stuff, the shoppers and more funds toward our adoption. Thank you to all who helped us in countless ways. We couldn’t do this without you guys! That’s the awesome part about being invested in community and part of the family of God. We’re made to work together! It’s such a beautiful thing to be a part of.

EARLY morning set up. Ben’s dad went over and above for both of our sales this year!

Our sales this year worked much like last year. We had a huge amount of items donated and were busting at the seams. We spent hours sorting, pricing, organizing and setting up. This year, we were sadly missing Neena’s amazing baked goods, but the kids happily tried to compensate.

Handsome salesmen.

Who could resist buying a bottle of water from these two cuties?!?!

We still have a few things leftover that we are listing on Craigslist but the majority of our items are sold or donated. Such a great feeling!! Thinking this year would be NOTHING like last year, we had pretty low expectations but high hopes. As usual, we’ve been blown away!! So far, sales total $2491.35!! Woohoo!!

IMG_2954

We make a pretty good team. ❤

And, in even HUGER news…I’m happy to update that God has made it possible for us to have raised over $14,000 toward this adoption so far!! UNBELIEVABLE!! Whenever we’re faced with a huge undertaking my hubby and and I often banter about a quote we heard once along the lines of, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” This reminds me of that. When we felt God calling us to adopt for sure, and our faith felt so small, we began the huge task of fundraising. That was a little less than a year ago. Wow. God is so good. We’re eating this elephant one bite at a time. Thanks for helping, because, for us, this elephant is a big one. 🙂

Read-A-Thon UPDATE!

***UPDATE***Blessed and Amazed!

***UPDATE*** Over the past month we have been working tirelessly to sell the rest of our donations. We’ve listed on Craigslist and Ebay and set up for a second yard sale day. Unfortunately, our sale day started out with pouring rain so we’ll have to try that one again, but the stuff on Craigslist and Ebay has been SELLING!! We will continue to plug away until the garage is empty but I couldn’t wait one more day to fill you in on the most recent total. Because YOU generously donated things for us to sell, we have raised $2,895.09 toward our adoption! That is all just from yard sale donations!! Unbelievable! I cannot express my thanks enough. What a joy and privilege it has been. Thank you.

(original post) My heart is full. As most of you know, yesterday was our big yard sale and bake sale fundraiser! After a couple weeks of hard work, receiving donations, sorting, pricing and selling, the big day has come and gone.

I am completely humbled and amazed by the outpouring of generosity and support from our family and friends and the people in our community. We received donations of things from 25 families that we could sell in our sale and my amazingly talented and generous mom baked like crazy to offer delicious baked goods to our customers. We were shocked by how many families gave us things! Thanks to all of you, the sale was amazing! We were very busy and ended up staying open 3 hours past what we originally planned. I was going to photo document the day so I could blog about it here but, in the end, have only one, measly yard sale selfie we snapped toward the end of a very warm, exhausting, satisfying and fun day. Pathetic, I know.

Yard Sale SelfieWe cannot express our thanks enough. We were blessed with awesome family and friends to help for the day, some of which started setting up with us at 6 am! We had so much help with organizing, dickering, collecting money, hauling, setting up, tearing down, preparing lunch and babysitting our kids. We had people praying for us and sending us messages throughout the day to encourage us. Friends came from near and far to show their support. We even had an afternoon frozen coffee delivery for a much needed pick me up! It was a very fun, very blessed day for our family.

Because of all of this and God’s provision of a beautiful sunny day and more blessings than we could have imagined, we raised $1,929.39 toward our adoption fund! (Funny number isn’t it?!?!) Isn’t that awesome?!?! AND…our garage is still packed full of things we are going to pull out for a smaller sale we plan to have over labor day weekend and several larger items we will be listing on Craigslist and Ebay. We are so incredibly thankful!

A friend on Facebook posted this quote today:

Vision beyond your resources? Don’t let fear dictate your decisions. If your vision is God-given, it will most definitely be beyond your ability and beyond your resources. The God who gives the vision is the same God who makes provision. ~ Mark Batterson

God is providing and we are so blessed to experience his faithfulness yet again!
